Charlie CrewsCharlie has participated in band since picking up the trumpet in 6th grade. Throughout these last 7 years, he's participated in 5 years of marching band and has been accepted into the Pittsylvania All-County band numerous times. Aside from trumpet he's learned to play the french horn and mellophone, has fulfilled the roles of Music Manager, Brass Captain and Drum Major over the years, and has been featured in concert band as a soloist. Charlie's favorite memories in band, and what he is going to miss the most, is the bus rides to the countless competitions and performances he's attended. His advice to underclassmen is "to take advantage of these last couple years, they're going to fly by."
Charlie plans to continue his participation with music in college and desires to major in Music Education with a minor in Music Therapy or Psychology. |
Ryon JohnsonRyon is in his fourth year of band and his second season of marching band. His primary instrument is Trumpet and was featured as a soloist at our 2019 Spring Concert. He was accepted into the Pittsylvania All-County band last year and is looking forward to auditioning and participating again. His favorite memories in band come from experimenting with learning to play other instruments and he's going to miss competitions the most. His advice to underclassmen is "to push through even when it seems hard, and learn your music early on!"
Ryon plans on attending Ferrum College as a History major and getting a minor in Music. He would like to stay involved in music in college by participating in their marching and concert bands. He hopes to become a Museum Curator and an Assistant Band Director one day. |
Michael MangrumMichael is in his 7th year of band and his 6th year involved in marching band. During his time in band, Michael has taken it upon himself to learn nearly every instrument that he can get his hands on. He's been a member of the Pittsylvania All-County Band multiple times, and has been accepted into the All-District Symphonic (top) Band two years in a row on Trombone. For his senior year, he holds the position of Music & Field Commander within the band. His favorite memories in band are all of the competitions and he's going to miss wet bleachers (?) and bus rides the most. His advice to underclassmen is to "break past your limits".
Michael plans to attend a college and become a Music Major and keep performing in college and beyond. |
DaVyon NibblettDaVyon is in his 6th year of band and 5th year involved in marching band. In concert band and previous years of marching band he has played trumpet, and for his last season he'll be playing synthesizer in the pit and snare drum in the stands. During his time in band he's been accepted into the Pittsylvania All-County Band and was 1st chair in 2018 and has been featured as a soloist many times. His favorite memories from band come from going to all the marching band competitions and seeing students in other bands. He's going to miss traveling with the band and the people involved once he graduates. His advice to underclassmen is "to never give up. You may feel discouraged by your non-band friends or random people for 'being in band', but if you truly love what you're doing keep pushing and be the best you, you can be."
DaVyon wishes to pursue a major in Music, and hopes to one day be hired as a Session/Studio Musician. He plans to participate in every band possible wherever he goes to college. |
Angel RobertsAngel is in her 3rd year of band and 3rd year of marching band. During her senior year she's taking on the official role of Percussion Captain, but likes to crown herself as the unofficial-official Organization Expert and Band Janitor. She cannot narrow down her favorite memory in band because "every time all of us are together as a band acting weird like we always do, those are the memories I want to continue to collect because all of them are my favorite", and she's going to miss not being together with this group of people the most when she graduates.
Angel plans to keep music in her life, no matter what the future holds for her. |
